The search has now started to find a new Chief Executive to lead the management of NHS Borders.

Last January, Calum Campbell moved on to become Chief Executive of NHS Lanarkshire and the role has been filled on an interim basis by Jane Davidson, NHS Borders previous Deputy Chief Executive.

Recruitment across the UK is underway and would-be candidates are informed, through web-based advertising, that the Board requires strong executive leadership to carry the service through the next phase of development.

Working alongside the executive team, and as a member of the Board, the post holder will be required to lead and facilitate a number of key priorities. These are set out by NHS Borders Chairman, John Raine, as the review of clinical services; the integration of health and social care services with Scottish Borders Council and the voluntary and third sectors; and promoting excellence in organisational behaviour, empowering staff to deliver the best for patients.

"The service has to deliver excellence against tight budgets and a challenging efficiency programme so this will be no easy ride for a chief executive" said John Raine. "But I want to encourage all those who feel they have the necessary experience and competencies, as well as a strong commitment to our vision and values, to apply."

Rewards are identified as a Board that is supportive and believes excellence starts at the top of the organisation; a loyal workforce; and the chance of working in Scottish Borders, described in the advertisement as "one of the most attractive parts of the UK; scenic, uncontested, noted for the excellence of its schools and recreational opportunities."
