13 March 2015

Are you or someone you know anxious? It is estimated that anxiety affects 1 in 20 people across the UK. To help raise local awareness of anxiety, as well as provide strategies and tips to cope more effectively, NHS Borders is running a free information session in Duns on 26 March 2015 to provide people with information on how to overcome anxiety.

This hour long session will be run by Kerry Robson and Jaime Black, both Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology within NHS Borders’ Mental Health Service.

Jaime Black said: “Anxiety is remarkably common and affects men and women of all ages and backgrounds.. Our thoughts, emotions and physical feelings are impacted by anxiety, ranging from mild feelings of tension, to persistent worry, to very high states of panic that occur during panic attacks.

“The good news is that small changes to our behaviours and challenging our own thinking patterns can result in a reduction of anxiety symptoms.”

The hour long session is not group therapy. You will not be asked to talk about yourself or your personal circumstances. If you feel that you need one-to-one support then you will be encouraged to contact your GP for that to be arranged. Support group contacts, self-help leaflets and DVDs will also be available at the classes.

The session will take place in Duns Library Contact Centre on 26th March 2015, from 5.30 – 6.30pm.

The class is free to everyone, however booking is essential.  If you would like to attend please contact Joan Sanderson on 01361 886104 to reserve a place.
