30 November 2015

On Friday 20 November, NHS Borders joined Borders College, Skills Development Scotland and Jobcentre Plus to celebrate the trainees who were successful in completing a four week Train to Gain administration programme as part of the NHS Borders Sector Based Work Academy.

Train to Gain provides opportunities to help unemployed people in the Borders gain work within the Health sector by helping the participants to develop skills and build a better understanding and insight into working in the health sector.

During the four weeks of the programme, seven participants completed the NHS Borders Corporate Induction programme together with the full four week training course organised by Borders College, which included a work placement within NHS Borders.

June Smyth, Director of Workforce and Planning for NHS Borders presented the certificates to all the participants at a graduation ceremony at Borders College Hawick campus on Friday 20th November. She said: “This course provides a fantastic opportunity for a number of unemployed local people to develop the knowledge and skills required to successfully gain employment.

“We run these programmes on a regular basis and once again we would like to thank the staff and placement areas within NHS Borders for their support in making the programme a continued success.”
