About our Service:

Our aim is to improve and maintain the health of all school-aged children and young people, and to help them realise their potential in health and education.

  • Child protection and support for vulnerable children and families
  • Health needs assessment and review for all children in Primary 1, including growth measurement and vision screening if required
  • Promoting health lifestyles & healthy schools
  • Providing health information, advice and support about health issues such as diet and nutrition, physical activity, emotional well-being, sexual health, smoking, drugs and alcohol - signposting where to get further help or advice
  • Complex needs assessment and management
  • Liaising with education, general practitioners, paediatricians, health visitors, parents, social work and other agencies
  • Supporting school staff with health aspects of the curriculum
  • Drop in health clinics in each High School
  • Immunisation programmes
  • Involvement in individual health care plans for children and young people with complex medical conditions, administration of medication and facilitation of training for school staff
