New Psychoactive Substances (Legal Highs)
Since 2008 there has been an increase in availability of a new generation of drugs collectively known as New Psychoactive Substances (NPS). There is a growing body of evidence on the harms caused by these drugs which are similar to existing drugs.
NPS can be divided roughly into three categories:
- Synthetic Cannabinoids - sold under names such as Clockwork Orange and Black Mamba.
- Stimulant type drugs - such as BZP and Mephedrone
- Hallucinogenic - such as 25i-NBOMe
