We aim to provide evidence-based services that anticipate and respond to the needs of individuals who experience speech, language, communication or swallowing difficulties.

Speech and language therapy works in partnership with these individuals and their families and with other professions and agencies to reduce the impact of these often isolating difficulties on people's wellbeing and their ability to participate in daily life.

 Who we are

We are a group of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) who have a Borders wide remit for adults and children with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

We aim to increase awareness and understanding of communication/swallowing disorders, the impact they have on our clients and work in partnership with others to meet their needs in a holistic way.

The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) department consists of 23 qualified Speech and Language Therapists (working full and part-time) and 3 Assistants (Technical Instructors).

S&LT Structure

All SLTs employed by NHS Borders are registered with and work within the guidelines of our regulating body Health Professions Council (HPC) and professional body Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). We are hosted within primary and community services.

Where we work

We work with children and adults in a variety of locations. These include health centres, hospitals, specialist units, care homes and schools. In some circumstances a home visit may be appropriate.
