Community Treatment and Care (CTAC) in the Scottish Borders

What is Community Treatment and Care (CTAC)?

Community Treatment and Care (CTAC) services provide routine healthcare, such as wound care, blood tests, and injections, delivered by NHS nurses and healthcare assistants in GP practices and community treatment rooms.

What is the NHS Borders Community Booking Hub?

The Community Booking Hub is a new way to book some routine nurse and healthcare assistant appointments at GP practices and community treatment rooms.

Instead of calling your GP reception, you will now contact a central booking team to schedule your appointment.

What types of appointments can I book through the Hub?

You can book appointments for:

  • Wound care and dressings
  • Blood tests (phlebotomy)
  • Removal of stitches or staples
  • B12 injections and other routine injections
  • Blood pressure checks and monitoring
  • Some other routine procedures

Do I need a referral for CTAC services?

Yes, you must be referred by a healthcare professional (such as a GP, nurse, or another clinician) before booking an appointment. You cannot self-refer for CTAC services.

Where will my appointment take place?

Your appointment will still take place at your GP practice or a nearby community treatment room.

How do I book a CTAC appointment?

Call the NHS Borders Community Booking Hub on 01896 809250

When is the Booking Hub open?

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call the Booking Hub at 01896 809250 as soon as possible. This allows us to offer the appointment to someone else.

If you miss your appointment, please call the hub as soon as possible and we will rebook this for you.

Can I still book through my GP practice?

  • If your GP practice has a health board reception, you can choose to book through the Community Booking Hub or with the health board reception team at your practice.
  • If your practice does not have a health board reception, you will need to use the Booking Hub to schedule your CTAC appointment.

What will I be asked when I call?

The call handler will ask for:

·       Your name

·       Date of birth

·       Address

This helps us confirm your identity. They’ll then check what treatment or test you need and offer the earliest available appointment. We’ll do our best to find a time that works for you

If you need us to slow down, repeat anything or call you back please let us know.

What if I need additional support during my appointment?

We are here to help. Please let us know if you:

·       Need translation services

·       Require assistance with hearing impairments

·       Have any other accessibility needs
