The Health Protection Team focuses on protecting the public from infectious diseases and environmental hazards

The Health Protection Team focus on:

  • Protecting the public from being exposed to communicable disease and environmental hazards which damage their health
  • Limiting impact on health when such exposures have already occurred
    Co-ordination of immunisation programmes
  • Co-ordination of of blood borne virus services and programmes
  • Co-ordination of national screening programmes.

We also benefit from the East Region Health Protection Service (ERHPS) that works across a wide range of settings to help keep people safe and well. The service supports members of the public, professionals working in care or education and partner organisations.

The East Region Health Protection Service (ERHPS) was established in December 2023 to provide expert public health protection across NHS Borders, NHS Fife, NHS Forth Valley, and NHS Lothian. Their dedicated regional team works to prevent and control communicable diseases and environmental health risks, responding swiftly to outbreaks and safeguarding the health of individuals and communities.
