A further two positive cases of Covid-19 have been identified in Hawick through NHS Borders Test and Protect team.

This brings the total associated with the outbreak in Hawick to 13 positive cases. None of the cases are causing any clinical concern. 

These two cases are members of staff at Morrisons supermarket. Test and protect staff are continuing to contact identified staff members who may be affected, with close contacts being advised to self-isolate and being given appropriate advice.

Scottish Borders Council’s Environmental Health team has worked with Morrisons overnight to complete a deep clean of the store to ensure the safety of staff and customers today.

Although the risk of catching the virus in Hawick is low, please be extra vigilant. If you experience any of the Covid-19 symptoms - a fever, persistent cough or loss of taste or smell – you must self-isolate immediately and book a test for Covid-19.

Tests must be booked in advance. You can arrange your test by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or calling 0800 028 2816. Whilst you wait for your test all of your household members should self-isolate. Once testing capacity is reached within Hawick you may be directed to another testing location. When booking a COVID-19 test online you are also given the option of ordering a home test kit if you cannot get to a test site. It is essential that only people with COVID-19 symptoms book a test. 

In light of the small increase in cases within the Hawick area, visiting to Hawick Community Hospital and care homes in Hawick has been temporarily suspended as a precaution to protect more vulnerable members of the community.

•          Face coverings in enclosed spaces

•          Avoid crowded places

•          Clean hands and surfaces regularly

•          Two metre distancing; and

•          Self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms.
