28 January 2021
Over 11,000 people have received their first dose of the covid vaccine in the Borders so far. This includes over 6,900 health and social care staff, all care home residents and over 4,000 people aged 80 and over. All people aged 80 and over will have been offered a vaccination by 5 February 2021.
Wave 2 of the programme has now commenced.
24,000 people are eligible to receive the Covid vaccine in Wave 2 as set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI):
- all those 75 years of age and over
- all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
- all those 65 years of age and over
In the Borders vaccinations for this wave will be delivered in GP Practices and some community venues. People who are eligible will be contacted to book their appointment in order of the priority list. You will be advised which venue you will receive your vaccination at when you are contacted to book your appointment. Please do not contact your practice or our booking hub direct unless advised to do so.
During this time our teams will also be administering second doses to those who were vaccinated in Wave 1; the co-ordination of which is a huge undertaking. We therefore ask that the public remain patient as there will be variation throughout the Borders as practices and venues receive vaccine supplies and administer them to their local community.
Our staff continue to work incredibly hard to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible in line with the national rollout plan. Up to date information about our vaccination programme is available on our website: /covid-19-vaccination
There are sadly a number of covid vaccination scams going around. Please remember that the covid-19 vaccine is free to everyone in Scotland and when we contact you about your vaccination we will never ask for your bank details. Please be vigilant.
It is extremely important that everyone, even those who have been vaccinated, continue to follow FACTS and the Scottish Government guidance to protect themselves and others from the virus, as the first eligible groups are prioritised.
These rules are really important if we are to keep each other safe and allow time for the COVID vaccination programme to take place over the coming months.
