Most Health Centres and GP Practices in the Borders will be closed for the public holiday on Monday 11 October 2021.

The following practices will be open:

  • Galashiels - Roxburgh Street Medical Practice
  • Kelso – Kelso Medical Practice
  • Lauder - Stow & Lauder Medical Practice
  • Stow - Stow & Lauder Medical Practice
  • Newcastleton – Newcastleton Medical Practice
  • West Linton – West Linton Medical Practice

Please do not attend your GP practice without an appointment as access to practice buildings is still restricted.

If you need to see your GP please phone the practice. If you are asked to attend an appointment please arrive on time, but not early. To limit the number of people in our buildings if you arrive early you may be asked to wait outside.

Some community pharmacies will be open for the public holiday on Monday 11 October 2021.

For information on your local pharmacy opening hours please click here.

Community Pharmacists can provide you with expert advice and treatment for a range of common illnesses and ailments, and give advice about your medicines.

Please be considerate when attending your local pharmacy: if you have been told to self-isolate or if you have symptoms of coronavirus please do not go into the pharmacy yourself but stay at home and make arrangements for either someone else to pick up your medication or ask your pharmacy to have your prescription delivered to your home, as you may unintentionally be putting yourself, Pharmacy staff and others at unnecessary risk.

If you or someone you care for is unwell and can’t wait until your GP practice re-opens, contact NHS 24 on 111. If the condition is immediately life threatening, dial 999 for an emergency ambulance.

What to do if you have symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Anyone with symptoms consistent with Covid-19, however mild, should self-isolate for 10 days. Those aged five or over with symptoms should be tested which can be booked online at nhsinform.scot/coronavirus or by calling 119 if you can’t get online.

The most common symptoms of Covid-19 are new:

• continuous cough
• Fever / high temperature (37.8C or greater)
• loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste (anosmia)

A new continuous cough is where you:

  • have a new cough that’s lasted for an hour
  • have had 3 or more episodes of coughing in 24 hours
  • are coughing more than usual

If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 10 days then you should phone NHS 24 on 111. You should not call your GP practice regarding Coronavirus symptoms. If the NHS 24 healthcare professional you speak to via 111 deems that you require further clinical assessment following their triage over the phone, you will be directed to the appropriate care locally.

If you need a sick note due to coronavirus, please don’t contact your GP or NHS 24. You can download a sick/isolation note directly from the NHS Inform website.
