19 March 2024

Ahead of WWF’s Earth Hour this Saturday 23 March at 8:30pm, we are urging Borderers to get involved to help the health of our planet.

Earth Hour is an annual event asking people to ‘give an hour for Earth’. In 2023, over 410,000 hours were given to our planet by supporters in over 190 countries and territories. This year, we're encouraging Borders to help make the #BiggestHourForEarth even bigger, and once again create a moment the world can't miss.

Join the Biggest Hour for Earth by spending 60 minutes doing something - anything - positive for our one shared home.

Many of the things we can do to help the planet are also beneficial to our health - for example using active travel such as cycling and walking; spending time gardening or eating seasonal fruit and vegetables.

You can sign up to support Earth Hour and find ways to ‘give your hour’ here.

Ralph Roberts, Chief Executive at NHS Borders, said: "We are proud to be supporting WWF's Earth Hour once again. This is a great opportunity to support our planet while taking time to do an activity which can benefit us directly too. This could be learning a new recipe using fresh, local produce or going for a walk and enjoying the beautiful Borders scenery.

“Even making little changes to our lifestyles can often have a big impact on our health and the planet. So please consider what positive things you can do for the environment ahead of Earth Hour this weekend.”
