We are delighted to share our Director of Public Health’s Annual Report with you - Real Action for Prevention: a vision of population health in the Scottish Borders.

The report focuses on the concept of prevention, highlighting a variety of prevention interventions available and shines a light on some of the work carried out by our Public Health Team over the last year.

Prevention is about taking action to stop, detect early, or reduce the impact of a condition, illness or disease.

Over the last year the Public Health Department has carried out a variety of work that seeks to lead, encourage, co-ordinate the efforts of local organisations, groups and allies to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in the Scottish Borders. You can read more about this work in the report.

Dr Sohail Bhatti, Director of Public Health at NHS Borders said: “This report sets out our vision for health in the Scottish Borders.

“We feel really passionate about prioritising health and wellbeing at all stages of life in a way that keeps people healthy and happy in their own homes. We have to start doing things differently and focusing on prevention and keeping people well is not only better for everyone, it will help with the pressures currently being experienced across NHS Borders.

“Prevention is at the core of this report, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with partners with a strong focus on prevention.”
