We are encouraging you to take 10 minutes to be active and move more – it all counts!

Physical activity has a positive impact on your physical and mental health but modern life encourages us to sit more and it can be difficult to fit movement into our busy lives.

When you are sitting at your laptop, scrolling through your phone or waiting for the kettle to boil, think about what you could do with 10 minutes. Could you have a walk around the block, do some strength exercises or stretches, star jumps, squats or sit ups, a home workout video or garden weeding?

Over the coming months we are going to be sharing resources, tips and ideas on how you can ‘Take 10’ whether that’s getting in your cardio or strength training.

Dr Sohail Bhatti, our Director of Public Health said: “Physical activity is one of the most beneficial things we can do to keep ourselves well and every bit counts.

“Not only does it have a hugely positive impact on your physical health, it can also be a great way to connect with others and keep us mentally healthy. Even 10 minutes a day can make a big difference.

“Follow along to hear our tips on how you can work more physical activity into your busy everyday life.”

Why not track your physical activity, either by writing it down or using an app like the NHS Active 10 Walking Tracker - you will see how quickly it all adds up.
