We are delighted to share that our Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) team has recently been awarded ‘Team of the Year’ by the Scottish Neonatal Nurses Group.
This national award celebrates excellence within neonatal services and is open to all neonatal units across Scotland. The award was presented at the Scottish Neonatal Nurses Group Conference, where members of the unit were recognised among peers from across the country.
To be considered for the award, teams must be nominated by someone who recognises their outstanding contribution, and the winner is then selected by an independent panel. Key qualities assessed by the judging panel include clinical excellence, family-centred care, strong leadership, teamwork and a commitment to going above and beyond in the care of newborns and their families. Our SCBU team stood out for their dedication to delivering outstanding and compassionate neonatal care.
The team’s commitment is reflected not only in this award win, but also in positive parent feedback we have received and the team’s 100% achievement rate in 13 out of the 15 standards assessed during our UNICEF Stage 3 accreditation, which is a testament to the unit’s family-centred approach.
Sarah Horan, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals at NHS Borders, said: “This is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of the dedication, compassion and professionalism shown by every member of the team in our Special Care Baby Unit. To be recognised nationally, particularly as a smaller unit, is incredibly special and so well deserved. The care our staff deliver day in, day out, truly makes a difference to Borders families at one of the most critical times in their lives.”
