Many organ and tissue donor families, recipients and healthcare staff gathered for a celebration and memorial event at the Borders General Hospital’s Chaplaincy Centre.
The celebration ceremony, held last Monday, was led by staff members and a donor recipient who gathered to share their reflections on organ and tissue donation locally.
After the ceremony, event attendees were invited to walk together to a newly planted memorial garden. This quiet spot with beautiful trees has been created so that recipients, those awaiting transplants, living donors and family members may take some time for reflection and remembrance.
Harriet Campbell, Chair of the Organ and Tissue Donation Committee, said: “We are privileged to celebrate Borders organ and tissue donation in this special way. The memorial garden is not just a celebration of survival or science, it’s a celebration of courage, generosity and love.”
By being an organ and tissue donor, you could give up to seven people a second chance at life. Whatever your decision, please take the time to register it. Don’t leave your loved ones in doubt and give them the chance to honour your decisions.
