A new appointment to the Board of NHS Borders has been announced by the Scottish
Government. The Cabinet Secretary for Health & Care announced the appointment of Allister Short as a Non-Executive Director of NHS Borders. His appointment will begin on 1 October 2026 and run for a four-year term.
Allister has worked in the NHS across hospital and community services, most recently as Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at NHS Lothian. He has also served as Chief Officer of two Integration Joint Boards, leading the transformation of health and social care services. Prior to this, he held professional roles in youth work and community development within the community and voluntary sectors and local authorities. He brings extensive experience in strategic planning, financial management and board governance, together with a strong commitment to prevention and reducing inequalities.
