About Our Service

Oral Surgery and Orthodontics are specialist branches of dentistry.

Oral Surgery carries out surgical procedures in the mouth which includes:

  • Surgical removal of teeth & retained roots and management of associated complications including oro-antral fistulae
  • Management of impacted teeth
  • Dentoalveolar surgery in relation to orthodontic treatment
  • Management of oral mucosal diseases including biopsies
  • Management of oral infections
  • Treatment of pathology of the hard and soft tissues
  • Peri-radicular surgery
  • Management of oro-facial pain including temporomandibular joint disorders

Orthodontics is concerned with the alignment of the teeth and jaws, including the correction of dental and facial abnormalities. In the Orthodontic department of BGH we treat patients who require complex orthodontic treatment for:

  • Developmentally missing teeth
  • Impacted teeth
  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Patients requiring multidisciplinary input into their care
  • Severe jaw discrepancies requiring jaw surgery

Many patients will not require complex orthodontic treatment and can be treated in an Orthodontic specialist practice, rather than in a hospital.
