Who We Are

We are the Major Trauma Psychology Service within NHS Borders. Our team provides psychological and neuropsychological support for people who have experienced significant physical trauma and are under the care of the NHS Borders Major Trauma Team.

What We Offer

Psychological and/or  neuropsychological assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation for individuals recovering from major trauma.

Advice, consultation, and liaison to other healthcare professionals involved in your care.

Who Might I See?

A Clinical Psychologist or an Assistant Psychologist.

They work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, which may include:

  • Major Trauma Co-ordinator
  • Doctors and Nurses
  • Dietitians
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational Therapists

 The professionals involved in your care will depend on  teams assessment of your physical and emotion requirements and time since injury.

Where Will I Be Seen?

Occasionally you may be seen in hospital while you are an inpatient at the Borders General Hospital (BGH).

After discharge, most appointments are at BGH or via video consultation using Near Me.

How to Access the Service

All referrals to the Major Trauma Psychology Service are made through the Major Trauma Co-ordinator in the NHS Borders Major Trauma Team.
