Who We Support
Our Secondary Care Psychology Service is here for adults aged 18 to 69 who are experiencing severe and enduring mental health problems. We accept referrals directly from GPs via SCI Gateway. We work with people whose problems may be too complex for the primary care mental health service, Renew, but who are not likely to need a team based approach to treatment, which is provided by the BACMHS.
What We Offer
We provide:
- Psychological assessments to help understand your mental health difficulties, including a personalised psychological formulation.
- Evidence-based psychological therapies, tailored to your needs following assessment. These may be delivered individually or in group settings.
Therapies we offer include:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Trauma-focused CBT
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Who Will I See?
You may be seen by a Clinical Psychologist or a Counselling Psychologist—both are trained to doctoral level and specialise in delivering psychological therapies.
How Will I Be Seen?
Appointments may take place:
- In person
- By video call
- By phone
How Do I Access This Service?
Most people are referred to us through their GP. However, we also see people who are ‘stepping up’ from Renew or ‘stepping down’ from BACMHS. We have weekly meetings with Renew and BACMHS in order to facilitate the stepping up and down of referrals to the service.
