Information for Training Grade Doctors regarding on-site accommodation at Borders General Hospital, with effect from August 2015
Subject to availability, on-site single accommodation is available in the Huntlyburn Terrace Residencies for foundation and other training grade doctors at an abated rental charge and council tax payment. As a local arrangement, in lieu of commuting and claiming excess travel expenses for training grade doctors voluntarily residing on a full time basis, single room accommodation in a 3-bedroom shared flat is available at reduced rental cost of £190.55 per month which is inclusive of £80.55 for council tax, effective from August 2015. There is no income tax liability for the cost of this abated rent accommodation. Flats at the Huntlyburn residencies are furnished with a double bed in each single room, a shared living room, shared kitchen equipped with cooker, fridge, cooking utensils and cutlery. There is a bathroom and shower room in each flat. There is a telephone in each flat connected the hospital telephone system, internet access in the residencies is very limited but is fully available in the library, hospital dining room and doctor’s mess. There is a laundry in the complex with coin operated commercial washing machines and dryers.
Alternatively should your main place of residence be elsewhere we will make the facility of a temporary on-call room or similar available when you are allocated long days or night duty on your rota pattern. We make this facility available for health and safety reasons so that you would not be required to undertake unnecessary commuting whilst undertaking these unsocial duty shifts. This facility would be available at no charge and there is no income tax liability. Ask for further information from H.R. at your induction.
