Patient presentation in Emergency Department

All patients with a urinary catheter in place must be reviewed upon presentation to the emergency department. A sticker will be used to advise the receiving ward/ community of their ongoing responsibility:

  • Sticker to be completed and attached to nursing documentation by emergency department nurse.
  • Receiving ward/ community to be advised of sticker by emergency department nurse.
  • Receiving ward/ community to action sticker as appropriate.

Patients requiring urinary catheter insertion in the emergency department will not be given a Catheter Passport. The sticker will guide the receiving area regarding review and issue of a catheter passport.

Night Bags

Only drainable ‘single use’ night bags are now available from Supplies. The order code is 000876.

Please remind patients that these are NOT reusable and for single use only.

Catheter Securing Devices

These are now available in all ward areas as part of the ‘top up’ system.

All catheters including those for bed bound patients must have a catheter securing devices. The order code for this is 099573.
