With better weather and longer days, it can feel easy to prioritise looking after your health and wellbeing in the warmer months but there are plenty of things you can do to keep yourself as well as possible over the winter period.

This means things like doing regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep and taking care of your mental health and wellbeing. Attending routine health check-ups / screening and promptly addressing any health concerns you have can help identify potential issues early. By doing these things you can improve your wellbeing and enjoy a better quality of life.

You can find plenty of resources to support your overall wellbeing at the NHS Borders Ways to be well website.

Dr Rebecca Devine, Public Health Consultant at NHS Borders said: “Having a focus on preventative care is so important, particularly in winter. Not only will it make you feel better every day, it will help you avoid illness.”

“Taking small manageable steps like adding a few more fruits or vegetables into your diet, taking 10 minutes throughout your day to do some physical activity and getting your vaccinations when offered them will all have a positive impact on your overall wellbeing.”

Keep an eye on our social media channels for more ways to be well throughout winter.
