Q.  What should I do if my child has been referred to CAMHS but has not had their first appointment and is exhibiting worsening behaviour or increased risk that is felt to be associated with a mental disorder?

A.  We would ask that you contact the professional who made the referral to us and if it was school that referred you then contact your GP.

Q.  When will my child be seen for their first appointment?

A.  When a young person is seen is dependent on the needs and the associated risk relating to the young person. You may find out resource pack useful to see what other services are available whilst you wait. 👉 Click here to access our resource pack

Q.  I have been/my child has been seen by CAMHS for their initial appointment but is now exhibiting worsening behaviour or increased risk that is felt to be associated with a mental disorder, what should I do?

A.  Please contact CAMHS directly on 01750 23715 and ask to speak with the duty nurse.

Q.  I have received a discharge letter as I/my child did not attend their appointment, but I still want my child to be seen. What can I do?

A. You will need to see a professional who can refer into us and ask for a re-referral to be made.

Q.  My child’s referral has been declined, what do I do now?

A.  We recommend that you speak with the professional who made the referral, as they will also have received your decline letter and can discuss it with you in more detail.  We ask you follow up on resource information and guidance provided in the decline letter.

Q. I have not been seen yet, but I am going to turn 18 years old, what will happen?

A. If you were accepted on to our waiting list you may be offered a new patient appointment, or we may call you as you near your 18th birthday to discuss. As CAMHS work with young people up to the age of 18 we do not accept referrals for anyone over 17 years and 10 months. Any such referrals would be declined and re-directed to adult services.
