If you have mild or moderate mental health problems you can receive support from you GP or Wellbeing Service however if you need specialist input, your GP may refer you to a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). The CMHT provides a service for people aged 18-69 years of age and is made up of different health professionals including psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, support workers and occupational therapists.

If you see an Occupational Therapist within the CMHT, they will work with you on an individual or group work basis using occupation (meaning anything we do) in order to promote independence and maximise your satisfaction in carrying out the daily activities of living that are important to you.

Occupational therapy is a profession vital to helping individuals with mental health difficulties develop the skills needed to live life to its fullest and we work alongside our team colleagues to provide specialist support which enables individuals to achieve health, well-being and a level of independence through participation in graded treatment programmes thus limiting the impact of physical and mental health problems on their ability to function independently.
