The first published weekly waiting times figures for Accident & Emergency (A&E) for NHS Borders show that, for the week ending February 22nd 2015, there was a total of 513 A&E attendances at the Borders General Hospital.

In 54 cases patients waited longer than four hours to receive their treatment. This means that our performance for the week against the four hour standard was 89.5%. This compares with an average performance across Scotland of 86.1% for the same period.

Of the 513 attendances during the week, 240 of these (47%) were classified as ‘Flow 1’ patients which means that patients were presenting with minor injury or illness.

“We would like to thank everyone who reconsidered their visit to the Emergency Department at the Borders General Hospital as this helps us keep it available for those who really needed emergency help. Finding an alternative place to seek medical advice, whether at your local pharmacy, GP or via NHS 24, all helps to keep the Emergency department available for accidents and emergencies.”

Across the month of January we saw 2197 patients in A&E, 89.7% of which were seen within four hours. This is again above the Scotland average of 85.4% for the month.

Over the year to end of January 2015 95.3% of patients were seen within four hours within NHS Borders, once again above the Scotland average of 91.3%.

“Our staff continue to work exceptionally hard to care for our patients and we thank them for their tremendous dedication.”
