As part of Hawick’s Summer Festival, NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council’s Joint Health Improvement Team are hosting an International Day in Hawick.

Hawick International Day aims to encourage those living in Hawick, Burnfoot and the surrounding areas to come and showcase the different nationalities that make up the local landscape.  The event will be held between 12-4pm on Sunday 28 August and many different nationalities will be hosting tables specific to their country.

As well as the international tables, there will be a number of activities and food tasting on Sunday afternoon at the Bandstand in Wilton Lodge Park.

Lizzie Ireland, NHS Borders Health Improvement Practitioner said: “International Day is a community led event that aims to bring the different communities within Hawick and surrounding areas together regardless of nationality.

She added: “It is important that we celebrate the diversity of different cultures living across our communities in the Scottish Borders.”

“This event will be held alongside Hawick’s Summer Festival, so why not join in the celebrations and help raise awareness of the importance of bringing communities together.”

Hawick’s international day has support from many organisations and will include performances by local primary schools and Mirror of Stage, a Polish theatre group from Edinburgh.
