Following on from the success of last year's International Day in Hawick, NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council (SBC), in partnership with over twenty local organisations, are hosting the first ever Scottish Borders Diversity Week.

Running from 15th - 21st October 2017, the week-long programme is filled with interesting, fun and interactive events for family, friends and colleagues to enjoy, including: an International Food Night, a Transgender Conference and community performances from local primary schools and Edinburgh's Polish Theatre Group to name a few.

Dr Tim Patterson, Joint Director of Public Health, said: "Diversity Week aims to encourage and empower our local communities to come together as one, learn from each other adn value the diversity that already exists here in the Scottish Borders. Why not come along and help us celebrate and spread the word about the importance of diversity."

John Greenwell, SBC Councillor and Equalities & Diversity Champion, said: "The Scottish Borders is fast becoming a very diverse community to live in and it is vital that all of our public bodies engage fully with the many minority groups coming to live and work in the Scottish Borders, so I am delighted that once again we are holding a diversity event supported both by the NHS and Scottish Borders. I would urge everyone to attend the many events planned for what I am sure will be a very successful week."
