Categories will be judged against the relevant criteria and the individual award descriptions listed below.  The judges will be looking for evidence and examples of how nominees meet the award criteria and description.

An individual or team who demonstrates initiative and personal motivation to provide exceptionally high quality and safe care.

Behind the Scenes – Clinical Staff
A clinical individual or team who may be out of the limelight but who provides invaluable support to frontline services or colleagues in other teams.

Behind the Scenes – Non Clinical Staff

Primary Care Provider of the Year *
Nominations welcome from NHS Borders staff and members of the public
A local team of independent contractors or an individual (i.e. a general practice, dental practice, optician or community pharmacy) which has consistently delivered high quality person-centred care to their patients. This team or individual will liaise effectively with colleagues and demonstrate significant improvements in their local service.

  • The contractor is motivated to provide a high quality, person-centred service within the local communities that they serve
  • Works effectively with other primary care providers and NHS Borders colleagues
  • Demonstrates initiative and creative thinking in improving local services

Improving Health
An individual or team who has made a real contribution to improving the health of colleagues or members of the wider public, or to helping people take control of their own health.

Supporter of the Year *
Nominations welcome from NHS Borders staff and members of the public
An individual or team who volunteers or supports the organisation (i.e. fundraising), or provides an outstanding service, and has shown exceptional commitment to supporting NHS Borders.

Rising Star *
Nominations welcome from NHS Borders staff and members of the public
A young person who, in the course of his or her studies or work placement (e.g. Junior Doctor, Student Nurse), has shown impressive dedication and commitment to furthering themselves and supporting the work of NHS Borders.

Leading By Example
An individual who has demonstrated excellent leadership skills by showing genuine concern for others, mentoring or supporting and enabling the development or people and services and inspiring and motivating others to be the best they can be.

Partnership Working
An individual or team who has exemplified partnership working to deliver services more efficiently or effectively. The nominee may have worked across boundaries within NHS Borders, within an integrated service or with external partners.

  • Involves those who are affected by the work they are doing
  • Can evidence consensus or compromise in the work they do

NHS Borders Values Award
An individual or team who demonstrates care & compassion to patients and dignity & respect to each other whilst keeping patients at the heart of everything they do.

  • Demonstrates behaviours which meet NHS Borders Core Values from our Behavioural Framework every day in their working environment
  • Places importance on the need to treat people as individuals who matter, by showing they care and believing in what they do
  • Demonstrates exemplary team work including communicating respectfully, openly and professionally and seeing things from others' perspective
  • Takes responsibility, observes processes and works across boundaries to achieve the best outcome for the service provided

Chairman's Award for Outstanding Achievement
This award seeks to reward an individual or team who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help improve the life of another.
Nominations are not accepted for this category as it is awarded at the discretion of the Chairman.
