Getting the Nasal Flu Vaccine Just Got Easier!
From September this year, children aged 2 to 5 who attend a Scottish Borders Council Early Education Learning Centres (ELCs) will receive their nasal spray flu vaccine at their centre—just like children in primary schools!
Flu vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect young children, but also those at higher risk of serious illness due to underlying health conditions. This is because young children are more likely to spread flu due to their close contact with other children and family members.

No Clinic Appointment Needed
Parents no longer need to book a clinic appointment. All you need to do is:
- Complete the consent form provided by your child’s ELC or primary school, making sure to tick the box to confirm your consent.
- Return the form to the ELC or primary school within 7 days.
The completed forms will be sent to NHS Borders School Immunisation Team, who may contact you if they need more information—just to ensure they’re fully prepared to support your child on the day.
Expert Care, No Need to Be There
The School Immunisation Team is highly trained and experienced in working with children. They’ll take great care of your child during their vaccination—meaning parents and carers don’t need to be present.
Prefer a Clinic Appointment?
No problem! If your child doesn’t attend an SBC ELC or primary school, or you’d prefer a clinic visit, you can still book an appointment.
Children not attending an early learning centre / nursery
We are still offering clinics at community health centres for children who are not currently attending a Scottish Borders Council early learning centre (ELC), either due to the child’s age, eligibility or family choice.
You will receive a letter in the post with a contact number to call and make an appointment.
