Child Flu Vaccine
Help beat flu with a wee scoosh
The flu vaccine is a quick, easy and painless nasal (nose) spray. All it takes is a wee scoosh up the nose.
Primary school children will receive a consent form through school. Please complete, sign and return the form to the school by the date provided, even if you do not want your child to be vaccinated.
Children attending an Early Learning Centre (ELC) can also be vaccinated. If your child attends an ELC joined to a primary school, a consent form will be provided. Please complete, sign and return the form by the date provided (within 7 days).
The flu vaccine is offered once a year. As flu viruses change every year, a new vaccine is needed each year to give the best protection against flu.

Children attending an early learning centre / nursery
No clinic appointment needed
Parents no longer need to book a clinic appointment. All you need to do is:
- Children attending an Early Learning Centre (ELC) can also be vaccinated. If your child attends an ELC joined to a primary school, a consent form will be provided. Please complete, sign and return the form.
- Forms should be returned to the ELC or primary school within 7 days.
The completed forms will be sent to NHS Borders School Immunisation Team, who may contact you if they need more information—just to ensure they’re fully prepared to support your child on the day.
Expert Care, no need to be there
The School Immunisation Team is highly trained and experienced in working with children. They’ll take great care of your child during their vaccination—meaning parents and carers don’t need to be present.
Prefer a clinic appointment?
No problem! If your child doesn’t attend an SBC ELC or primary school, or you’d prefer a clinic visit, you can still book an appointment by calling 01896 809250.
Children not attending an early learning centre / nursery
We are still offering clinics at community health centres for children who are not currently attending a Scottish Borders Council early learning centre (ELC), either due to the child’s age, eligibility or family choice.
You will receive a letter in the post with a contact number to call and make an appointment.
