10 November 2015

You are invited to Alzheimer Scotland’s inaugural Borders Dementia Ball on Saturday 21st November at Dryburgh Abbey Hotel in St. Boswells to help raise awareness of Dementia. With the local support from NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council, information displays on local dementia services will be available to view while catching a breath between ceilidh dances.

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s leading specialist dementia charity and works to improve the lives of everyone affected by dementia. They provide information, support and a network of services and support groups from more than 60 sites around Scotland. Alzheimer Scotland also campaign to improve public policies and services for people with dementia and their carers.

There are currently over 90,000 people in Scotland living with a diagnosis of dementia, a number that is expected to double within a generation as life expectancy increases. Of this number, over 2,200 live in the Scottish Borders, with almost 100 being under the age of 65. All the money raised through the Ball will stay with Alzheimer Scotland’s Borders services to develop and support local services.

Peter Lerpiniere, Dementia Nurse Consultant for NHS Borders said: “Nobody should face dementia alone. Having conversations about dementia; with partners, with family and friends, or with medical professionals can make a huge difference to someone’s future quality of life.

“If by supporting local fundraisers like the first Borders Forget Me Not Ball, we can help even one person take action to have conversations about dementia then the event will be a success.”

A limited number of tickets are still available at £25 per person (£200 for a table of ten). Doors open at 7pm and the ticket price includes a complimentary arrival refreshment, buffet, cake, tea and coffee and ‘tea and toast’ at the end of the evening. Entertainment is being provided by Bedlam Ceilidh Band.
