The lifestyle support that is offered to people in the Borders has been given a fresh new look with the launch of the new LASS (Lifestyle Advisor Support Service) website.

Since the original launch of the LASS pilot project at Kelso Health Centre in February 2004, the service has offered support to any adult in the Borders aged 16 and over, who is at risk of developing coronary heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases/illnesses. The Lifestyle Advisers do this by focusing on weight management, physical activity, healthier eating, smoking, safer alcohol use and emotional wellbeing.

Pamela Jaworowska, Senior Lifestyle Adviser at NHS Borders said: “Seeking ways to improve our service is an ongoing process for my team. We are constantly striving to make our service more accessible for the people in the Borders and that is why I am very excited to promote our new website.”

The LASS service offers general health checks to all our patients and cardiovascular health checks to those who are considered ‘at risk’ aged 40-69 years.

Pamela added: “A LASS health assessment is your chance to make a positive difference to your health. As well as cutting the possible risk of future disease, the support you receive from further appointments with a lifestyle adviser can help you make sustained changes to your lifestyle, helping you to feel better straight away.”
