The Borders Healthy Living Network, which is part of the Joint Health Improvement Team at NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council (SBC), is hosting a two day street food event in Eyemouth on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 May.

The free event has been organised to give the team the opportunity to engage with East Berwickshire residents of all ages to find out more about what is important to the local community in terms of developing a good food culture in Eyemouth which makes the most of local products and resources.

The event is taking place in the Eyemouth Harbour Chill Space from 9.30am until 3pm. There is no need to book and everyone is welcome.

Celebrity chef, Dave Hodson will be providing cooking demonstrations at 9.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm each day. With over 20 years’ culinary experience, Dave will be demonstrating a variety of inspirational ideas that make the best use of Eyemouth’s delicious home-grown produce.

Pupils from local primary schools have been invited to come along and be at the centre of live demonstrations, seeing first-hand the appetising food that can be made from scratch using simple and local ingredients. They will also have the chance to try some ‘tasty bites’ and guess the ingredients used, leaving with recipes to try out at home.

Eyemouth High School pupils will be working with Lanarkshire based filmmakers Deep Fried Film over the two days to develop a short film. They will be out and about talking with local people and getting their ideas about how to make the most of the good food that Eyemouth has to offer.

Dr Allyson McCollam, Joint Head of Health Improvement for NHS Borders and SBC, said: “We would like to encourage as many residents as possible from Eyemouth and the surrounding area to come along and participate in what will be an exciting opportunity to influence the direction of our work with the local community over the coming year.

“We want to work with as many partners as possible, which includes local residents, to help us promote good food and good health for Eyemouth. We have a few ideas for potential initiatives that might be of interest, such as cooking classes, fruit and vegetable boxes and gardening projects but would welcome local feedback and knowledge from the community about what they would like to develop that would meet their needs in an enjoyable and meaningful way.”
