Who are we?
We are a group of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) who have a Borders wide remit for adults and children with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
We aim to increase awareness and understanding of communication/swallowing disorders, the impact they have on our clients and work in partnership with others to meet their needs in a holistic way.
The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) department consists of 21 qualified Speech and Language Therapists (working full and part-time) and 3 Assistants (Technical Instructors).
All SLTs employed by NHS Borders are registered with and work within the guidelines of our regulating body Health Professions Council (HPC) and professional body Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). We are hosted within primary and community services.
Most therapists work within a SLT team or an inter-agency/multidisciplinary team (e.g. learning disabilities, autism). Team working helps to promote equity of service provision, effective skill mix and it encourages clinical reflective practice.
