Support for Family Members

If you are affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug use support is available both locally in Borders and through Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs (SFAD). Please see links below:

Looking after yourself  We spend a lot of time caring about the person who is using alcohol or drugs and forget about our own mental health. This link takes you to SFAD website who provide helpful information on ways to start looking after yourself.  This includes advice on anxiety, low mood, depression, health eating advice, stress and sleep hygiene.

Support for LGBTQ+ People, Families and Communities – If you are LGBTQ+, reaching out for support can understandably be more difficult. If you or your loved one is LGBTQ+ support is available. This link highlights some common difficulties you or your loved one may face and where to find support.

Supporting Someone Else – Services in Borders (We are With You and Chimes) along with SFAD use a programme called CRAFT Community Reinforcement and Family Training.  This includes information on talking about alcohol and drugs, positive communication and setting boundaries.  For more information contact We Are With You on 01896 757843 or click here
