Going to the Emergency Department or phoning 999

Please ensure that you seek the right care from the right place and only attend the Emergency Department (ED) or phone 999 for life threatening emergencies that require emergency medical care such as severe injury, a suspected heart attack or stroke, breathing difficulties, or severe bleeding.

If you do go to ED, remember that measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus might mean that it's different to what you may have experienced before. You may be asked to attend alone and signposted to a more appropriate service to help keep you safe.

People attending the department will be treated according to clinical priority.

From now on, people with non-life threatening conditions, who would usually attend the Emergency Department (ED), are advised to call NHS 24 first on 111, day or night.
