👋 Welcome to the School Immunisation Programme
NHS Borders is proud to support the health and wellbeing of young people across the Borders through the school immunisation programme. Vaccination is safe, effective, and helps protect your child and the wider community. Each year, pupils are offered vaccines to protect against potentially serious illnesses including:
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
- Flu and Fluenz nasal spray
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
- MenACWY (Meningococcal bacteria A, C, W and Y)
- Td/IPV (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio)
The team works closely with schools to make the process smooth and reassuring for pupils and families. Before the start of each vaccination programme, parents / guardians will receive a consent form, along with details of the scheduled clinic dates.
Please take a moment to read through the information provided and return the completed consent form to your child’s school by the stated deadline. This ensures your child can receive their vaccination as planned.
Once returned, the form will be shared with the NHS Borders School Immunisation Team. If any additional details are needed, a member of the team may get in touch—just to make sure they’re fully prepared to support your child on the day.
If you have any questions or need support, please contact the School Immunisation Team.

On the day of vaccination
Vaccination clinics usually take place in the school hall or a designated social space, with pupils attending class by class throughout the day. This helps ensure the process runs smoothly and with minimal disruption to classes.
We work closely with schools that have complex needs units, where vaccinations can be offered within the unit itself or in a quieter, more comfortable space. Parents or carers can attend these appointments by prior arrangement, to help ensure the experience is as calm and supportive as possible for the young person.
In addition to school-based clinics, the NHS Borders School Immunisation Team also arranges community clinics from time to time, offering extra flexibility for pupils who may have missed their school appointment or do not attend school.
